Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign took swipes on Sunday at his main rival for the Republican nomination, former President Donald Trump, over Trump’s own core issue: immigration.

In a pair of Twitter posts issued Sunday evening, the DeSantis camp noted that both Trump and President Joe Biden failed miserably in trying to police the southern border.

The first tweet, which featured a 64-second video, was aimed at Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

The video included voiceovers from news reporters discussing the influx of illegal immigrants under Biden and the adverse effects on America.

“The border is a complete disaster,” the graphics say as a news report notes that a record 2.76 million illegals crossed into the U.S. during fiscal year 2022. That surpassed the previous record by more than 1 million.

DeSantis’ camp noted that 10 million illegals have entered through Mexico in the past decade, encompassing Biden, Trump, and former President Barack Obama.

“Every year, it just keeps getting worse and worse,” the video’s graphics say.

The governor’s team then argues that both dangerous thugs and dangerous drugs are “pouring” into America because of lax security. They point out that tens of thousands of Americans are dying from illegal drugs, and almost 5 tons of fentanyl have been seized this year.

DeSantis’ campaign also said that 127 terrorists have also been apprehended this year.

The video closes with the message: “We will secure the border. We will stop the cartels. We will build the wall. We will stop the invasion. No excuses.”

The second tweet highlights a recent speech in which Trump promises to use local, state, federal and military resources to “carry out the largest domestic deportation operation in American history.”

“Trump ran on this same promise in 2016, but ended up deporting fewer illegals than Barack Obama,” DeSantis’ campaign pointed out.

The post also included a quote from the Migration Policy Institute, which noted that Trump’s administration deported about one-third as many illegals from the interior of the county than Obama did in his first four years.

A third tweet on Sunday evening not specifically directed at Trump or Biden was a retweet of a report by Fox News reporter Bill Melugin, who showed DeSantis visiting the border at Eagle Pass, Texas.

Texas law enforcement officials thanked DeSantis for sending authorities from Florida to help control the flow of illegals, Melugin reported.
