Ireland had a long and distinguished career in public service, starting with his election to the Winter Haven City Commission in 1966. He later served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1976 until his retirement in 1992.
Governor DeSantis’ memorandum directs flags to be lowered at the following locations:
- Polk County Courthouse in Winter Haven, Florida
- Winter Haven City Hall
- Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee
This gesture honors Ireland’s dedication to serving his country and his constituents throughout his career.
