Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has emerged as a staunch supporter of Israel’s mission to defeat the Palestinian militant group.
Speaking at the Republican Jewish Coalition Conference in Las Vegas, DeSantis emphasized that there is no moral equivalence between Israel and Hamas.
“Israel values life. The Hamas terrorists worship death,” DeSantis said during a speech Saturday at the Republican Jewish Coalition Conference in Las Vegas. “Don’t tell me there’s a moral equivalency here, because there is not.”
DeSantis has taken steps to support Israel in its mission to defeat Hamas. He has vowed to send weapons and supplies to support the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
In addition, he has issued executive orders that crack down on Iranian businesses, recognizing the threat they pose to Israel’s security. DeSantis has also sponsored flights full of Floridians returning to the United States from Israel, ensuring their safety amid the ongoing conflict.
Extending a Helping Hand: Rescue Flights and Supply Transport
DeSantis has actively facilitated the safe return of American citizens from Israel. He posted online that nearly 700 Americans have been flown from Israel to Florida in four separate rescue flights.
These efforts highlight his commitment to the well-being and safety of his constituents in times of crisis.
Moreover, at the request of the Israeli Consul General in Miami, Florida, contracted cargo planes to transport supplies to Israel, providing much-needed support to the nation.
Criticizing the Biden Administration: DeSantis’ Displeasure with the Response
Governor DeSantis has not shied away from criticizing the Biden administration’s response to the war in Gaza. He believes that the administration’s approach lacks the necessary strength and support for Israel.
DeSantis has been vocal about his concerns and has vowed to revoke student visas of Hamas sympathizers if elected to the White House in 2024.
In the news: Florida Gov. DeSantis To Foreign Hamas Supporters On College Campuses: “I’m Sending Them Back”
DeSantis, in a clear and unapologetic tone, stated, “We are going to stand with Israel in this dark hour for them,” indicating his unwavering support for the Jewish state.
“You may have a right to say certain things, but that’s material support to terrorism if you’re saying you’re part of what they’re doing, so we deactivated the Students for Justice in Palestine and were the first state to step up to the plate and do that,” DeSantis told host Newsmax Rita Cosby.
“I was the first candidate to say that if you have foreign visa holders out there making common cause with Hamas, I’m canceling their visa, and I’m sending them back,” DeSantis added. “That’s the bare minimum.
“I don’t care what some imbeciles on a college campus say… I don’t care what liars in the media say. I don’t care what reprobates at the United Nations say,” he said at the conference on Saturday, adding “We stand with Israel! The United States will have their back!”
Support from GOP Hopefuls: A Unified Stand with Israel
DeSantis is not alone in his strong support for Israel. Various other GOP hopefuls, including former President Donald Trump, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, have expressed their solidarity with Israel.
