Just ahead of the third Republican presidential debate in Miami, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis argues that some of these forums should be held in the early voting states.
“Iowa should have one of these debates,” DeSantis said in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by his rapid-response team, DeSantis War Room.
He followed that comment by saying New Hampshire should host one as well, after the Iowa caucuses but before Granite State Republicans vote.

“I don’t know why we have had any of these debates in the two early states,” he continued. “I’m a big supporter of getting either a December or early January debate in Iowa. I think that would be very important.”
“Obviously, we’ll still cover the whole host of issue, but you may have some Iowa-specific things that Iowans care about, and that’s really what the RNC [Republican National Committee} should be doing.”
“I think it would be good for the process,” he added.
Oddly, the first three debates have been in areas that historically have not been friendly to Republicans.
The first debate was in Milwaukee, while the second, admittedly at the late President Ronald Reagan’s library, was still in California.

The next one, on Nov. 8, was in Miami, which DeSantis won last year by 11 points, but which went Republican in a governor’s race for the first time in 20 years.
DeSantis has trolled his Republican rivals by saying he will visit all 99 Iowa counties.
DeSantis has lobbied hard to get the endorsement of Iowa’s popular Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds. He has even floated the idea of selecting Reynolds as a running mate if he becomes the GOP’s 2024 nominee.
