Florida Gov. DeSantis Calls Biden Impeachment Probe “Justifiable”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Sunday said that President Joe Biden and his family were “corrupt” and not fully forthcoming about how they amassed a small mountain of cash from overseas interests.

But the Republican presidential candidate also cautioned GOP leaders on Capitol Hill to not be overly focused on Biden’s alleged corruption during a possible impeachment inquiry.

While “justifiable,” he added, that could become a “Trojan horse” that may distract Republicans from addressing Biden’s many failures that voters find more concerning.

DeSantis made the comments during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Left-wing host Kristen Welker raised the issue of House Speaker Mike Johnson indicating that he has the votes to launch an impeachment inquiry into Biden for his ties to overseas deals cut by his son, Hunter.

Welker wanted DeSantis to comment on whether the GOP could see the inquiry “potentially backfire.”

“So here’s what I think. I think the Biden family and the amount of money that’s flowed into that family to me is corrupt,” he replied. “I think that it’s not been explained in ways that make any sense. And so opening an inquiry based on the facts that we have, I think would be justifiable.”

“However,” he continued, “I think they run the risk of doing an inquiry that doesn’t necessarily lead anywhere while they’ve been ignoring a lot of the problems that our voters are talking about.”

DeSantis said when he travels through Iowa it is clear that GOP voters dislike Biden and express concern about Hunter and “all this money.” Republicans in Congress say the Biden family may have made at least $10 million through Hunter’s deals that invoked or involved Joe.

“But,” DeSantis added, “they’re more concerned about what’s happening at our border. They’re more concerned about what’s happening with the economy. They’re more concerned about federal agencies that are overstepping their bounds.”

“So if you’re doing the inquiry, which again, I think is justifiable, you also have to be addressing all these other issues. And I think that there’s a feeling out here that they’re not focused on the key issues that they wanted to see addressed, clearly on the budget. There’s been no progress on that.”

DeSantis advised GOP lawmakers, “So, make sure you’re not ignoring all these other issues. And don’t use that inquiry as kind of a Trojan Horse to not then meet your responsibilities on all these other things.”

As for those federal agencies, DeSantis pledged he would end the weaponization of the federal bureaucracy, such as the Justice Department, FBI and IRS, against everyday Americans.

“I’m gonna end that weaponization … for the people that have been under the thumb of these agencies, and I’m gonna restore the rule of law,” said DeSantis.
