Three days after his bid to remain on the Broward County School Board fell short, Daniel Foganholi has been appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis to the State Board of Education.

Foganholi, originally appointed to the Broward board by DeSantis in 2022, finished third in Tuesday’s primary election for the seat.

Despite the loss, his new role on the State Board of Education will begin on November 20, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. congratulated Foganholi on social media platform X, saying, “I look forward to continuing to work with you to serve Florida’s students.”

However, not all were pleased with the decision. Jennifer Jenkins, founder of the group Educated We Stand, has criticized DeSantis’ education policies and condemned the appointment.

“In a true democracy, elected officials are chosen by the people, not anointed by political power,” Jenkins said in a statement. “DeSantis’ decision underscores his disregard for a government that reflects the will of its constituents and his preference for imposing his own political agenda.”

Side Note: On a national level, both Democrats and Republicans seem to agree with DeSantis and Jenkins on actions and criticisms of process and political power.

“Democrats just anointed a California Liberal. Kamala Harris has been a disaster for our country. It will only get worse if she is elected president,” said Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott on X.
