With holiday travel expected to surge, the average price of gasoline in Florida edged up slightly over the past week. As of Monday, Florida drivers were paying an average of $3.13 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, up just one cent from $3.12 the previous week, according to the AAA auto club.

AAA predicts that 7.1 million Floridians will travel more than 50 miles during the final 10 days of December, adding to the usual year-end traffic increases.

Gas prices in Florida have remained relatively stable since September, fluctuating between $2.99 and $3.20 per gallon.

“During the past three months, the state average has bounced between $2.99 (a gallon) and $3.20 (a gallon),” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in a prepared statement. “Oil prices have remained low during that time, which has prevented any significant jump at the pump.”

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel on Monday was $3.02, slightly below Florida’s state average.

The modest rise in prices comes as Floridians prepare for one of the busiest travel periods of the year, with millions hitting the road to celebrate the holidays.
