Florida drivers are feeling the pinch at the pump as gas prices in the state have risen above the national average for the first time since mid-July.

According to AAA, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Florida is now $3.14 per gallon, slightly exceeding the national average of $3.13. While this is a penny increase from the previous week, it’s still lower than the average price a month ago.

Despite the recent uptick in Florida, gas prices nationwide are trending downwards. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, predicts that the national average could fall below $3 per gallon within the next week to 12 days, marking the first time since 2021.

“We’re primed to see average U.S. gas price fall below $3/gal in the next 7-12 days if this holds,” De Haan posted on X. “It would be the first time since 2021.”

This downward trend is welcome news for drivers across the country who have been grappling with high fuel costs. However, it remains to be seen how long this trend will continue and whether Florida’s prices will follow suit.
