TAMPA, Fla. – Florida drivers are getting a welcome break at the pump as the state’s average gas price has fallen below $3 a gallon this week.

AAA reports that Sunday’s state average was $2.97 per gallon, which is 2 cents lower than the 2024 low and the lowest daily average since December 2023.

Florida’s average gas price has seen a steady decline, dropping 13 cents from the previous week, 13 cents from a month ago, and a substantial 55 cents compared to the same time last year. The average cost to fill a 15-gallon gas tank is now $44.55, a savings of $8.25 compared to a year ago.

“Low oil prices and strong gasoline production numbers have helped push gas prices to lows not seen in more than a year,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “However, it’s not clear how much lower prices will go. Springtime factors like refinery maintenance, strong demand, and the switch to summer gasoline typically keep upward pressure on prices at the pump.”

The price drop is widespread, with over 70% of Florida gas stations now selling gasoline for under $3 a gallon. The lowest 10% of gas prices are averaging $2.76 per gallon, while the highest 10% average $3.35 per gallon.
