A Florida woman has been arrested by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) on charges of grand theft. Kelly Rae Short, 57, of Milton, the former treasurer of the Santa Rosa County Association of School Administrators (SRCASA) and a former director within the Santa Rosa County school district, is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the association.

The investigation began on August 14, 2024, after the Santa Rosa County School District alerted FDLE to the findings of an independent financial audit of the SRCASA account. The audit indicated potential criminal activity by Short during her time as treasurer.

As treasurer, Short was responsible for managing the SRCASA’s finances, including collecting dues, making purchases, writing checks, and maintaining financial records.

FDLE’s investigation revealed that Short allegedly doctored bank statements and misappropriated approximately $3,498.07. She is accused of writing eight checks to herself from the SRCASA account and linking the association’s bank account to her personal Venmo account to transfer funds.
