The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has announced that 50 schools will receive funding through the annual School Fishing Club Program grant for the upcoming school year. This program aims to educate young anglers about responsible fishing practices, ensuring a bright future for fishing in Florida.

Each recipient school fishing club will receive $500 to cover expenses such as fishing gear and tackle, enabling students to gain hands-on experience.

The FWC also provides educational materials and a curriculum that covers topics like ethical angling, conservation, aquatic habitats, and basic fishing techniques. Participating clubs are required to complete at least one conservation project annually, with the opportunity to earn points for prizes.

This FWC program is a collaborative effort involving various divisions within the organization, including Freshwater Fisheries Management, Marine Fisheries Management, and the Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network. It is supported by funding from several organizations, including the Coastal Conservation Association, the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida, Mrs. Connie and Mr. Garner Koons, Mud Hole Custom Tackle, Hobie Eyewear, Pure Fishing, and Flambeau Outdoors.

A complete list of the schools receiving the grant can be found on the FWC website.

The Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida is a non-profit dedicated to supporting the FWC and other partners in conserving Florida’s natural resources. They have raised and donated over $71 million towards this cause.

Schools that missed the grant application deadline this year can apply again in March 2025 for the 2025-26 school year.
