Mickey Colangelo, Jr., 45, of Fort Myers, has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, according to Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney.
Colangelo faces a minimum sentence of 15 years and up to life in federal prison. He has also agreed to forfeit the firearm involved in the offense.
On October 30, 2024, Colangelo was stopped by Lee County Sheriff’s deputies as a wanted suspect for a felony offense. Deputies discovered a loaded pistol in his backpack. Due to prior felony convictions, Colangelo is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.

Colangelo’s extensive criminal history, which includes at least three prior violent felony convictions, qualifies him for enhanced penalties as an Armed Career Criminal.
The case was investigated by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan is prosecuting the case.
