The Florida Commission on Ethics has cleared two high-ranking aides to Gov. Ron DeSantis after they were accused of improper activities related to DeSantis’ presidential campaign.
The ethics commission said in a news release Wednesday that it did not find “probable cause” that James Uthmeier and Stephanie Kopelousos misused their positions.
Uthmeier served as chief of staff for DeSantis before taking a leave of absence in August to manage the presidential campaign. Kopelousos served as director of legislative affairs before leaving the post this summer to work on the campaign.

The news release did not provide details of the allegations, but it said Uthmeier was accused of misusing “his position to have employees and officials in the administration solicit campaign funds.”
It said Kopelousos was accused of misusing her position to solicit endorsements for DeSantis.
The Florida Democratic Party said in June that it had filed ethics complaints against Uthmeier, Kopelousos and DeSantis budget director Chris Spencer.
The ethics commission news release did not say whether the decisions clearing Uthmeier and Kopelousos were in the complaints filed by the Democratic Party.
