A Florida doctor has been indicted on federal charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor in Utah and the production of child sexual abuse material.

United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announced Friday the indictment of Pete Supan, 35, of Bradenton, who faces a maximum penalty of life in federal prison if convicted on all counts.

According to the indictment, Supan coerced and enticed an individual under the age of 18 to engage in sexual activity. He also persuaded the minor to engage in “sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of such conduct.”

The investigation began in October 2024 when detectives received a cyber tip about suspicious online chats of a “sexual nature” on Reddit between Supan and a 14-year-old girl from Utah.

According to officials, Supan, who worked as a medical doctor practicing internal medicine in Sarasota, solicited nude images from the victim and engaged in explicit conversations about sex acts.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for Supan’s home in Lakewood Ranch and seized multiple electronic devices for examination. During an interview with detectives, Supan allegedly confessed to chatting with the victim, soliciting explicit images, and sending her explicit photos of himself.

Detectives determined that Supan had no access to children in his professional capacity and had not traveled to meet any minors, limiting his activity to online interactions.
