In the wake of Hurricane Milton’s destruction, Attorney General Ashley Moody is sending a strong message to those looking to exploit storm victims: Florida will not tolerate lawlessness. Moody issued guidance to sheriffs and police chiefs in impacted areas, encouraging them to be vigilant for looters and emphasizing the enhanced penalties for crimes committed during a state of emergency.

“Florida is a law-and-order state, and even though we have been damaged by Milton, we will not allow looting to take root here. I am offering guidance to Florida sheriffs and police chiefs about enhanced penalties for crimes committed during a state of emergency,” said Moody.

Moody also reminded Floridians to report any suspicious activity and issued a Consumer Alert for price gouging and disaster-related scams. The Attorney General’s Price Gouging Hotline remains active, and Floridians are encouraged to report instances of price increases on essential recovery supplies.
