A contractor in Florida has been arrested after deputies say he stole nearly $400,000 from victims in a construction fraud case.
According to investigators in Indian River County, members of their Special Investigations Unit (SIU) arrested Dillon Z. Slater, owner of Slater Construction LLC.
“Mr. Slater has been defrauding some of our hard-working community members and came up on our radar through Detective Rebecca Hurley’s meticulous investigation,” said IRCSO.

Slater has been charged with the following:
- Organized Fraud of over $50,000
- Scheme to Defraud a Financial Institution
- Stop Payment with the Intent to Defraud.
These felony charges stem from an investigation undertaken by SIU Detective Rebecca Hurley who began looking into alleged construction fraud involving Slater Construction LLC.
Deputies say as the detective she reached out to members of the community, she discovered at least 4 victims of Slater and Slater Construction LLC for numerous projects that were either never started or abandoned before completion.
In total, these victims were defrauded out of nearly $400,000, deputies say.
As a result of these charges, Slater, who was already on Probation, was arrested on Wednesday morning while also being served with a Violation of Probation warrant.
