TAMPA, Fla. – More than a decade has passed since 35-year-old Misti Whitfield was last seen alive, yet the person or persons responsible for her tragic death remain unidentified. Misti’s family and friends continue to seek justice, keeping her memory alive and urging anyone with information to come forward.
On the night of May 2, 2013, Misti was last seen walking alone near W. Hillsborough Avenue and N. Rome Street in Tampa, heading toward her home. After days without contact, her family reported her missing, launching an exhaustive search.
Tragically, on October 24, 2014, her remains were discovered in a shed near the location where she was last seen. Investigators determined she had been the victim of homicide, but despite extensive efforts, no arrests have been made.

Misti was a beloved daughter, friend, and sister whose vibrant spirit touched many. Her mother, Sharon C. Ardelean, reflects on the deep bond they shared. “When she was being silly, Misti would call me ‘Mommy.’ When she was sad, it was ‘Momma,’ and when she wanted my attention, it was just ‘Sharon,’” Sharon said. “But mostly, she called me ‘Moms,’ because I was both her mother and father figure.”
On July 7, Misti’s birthday, Sharon posted a heartfelt message: “Happy birthday in heaven, my sweet girl. I miss you every second of every day. You so loved your birthday, so I’m going to try and stay upbeat today. I will love and remember you until my last breath. Love, your mama.”
Friends also share their memories and grief on Misti’s social media pages. On the eighth anniversary of her disappearance, friend Rachel Caruso wrote: “I will never forget you, Misti. We went through so much together. I just wish we could have done life again together—differently and longer. God, please bring closure to her family and everyone who loves her.”
Despite the passage of time, someone holds the key to solving Misti’s case. Authorities and her loved ones plead for that person to come forward. Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of those responsible for Misti’s death.
If you have any information, no matter how small, you can remain anonymous. Contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online. It’s time for Misti’s family and friends to receive the closure they so desperately deserve.
