Florida residents in the northern and central parts of the state are being advised to prepare for a blast of cold weather on Tuesday.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management issued a warning on Monday, stating that “frigid temperatures & breezy winds will make temperatures feel much colder than they actually are tomorrow morning across North & Central FL.” They urged residents to “dress in multiple loose, warm layers & break out your hats & gloves!”

The Weather Channel is forecasting temperatures to plummet below freezing in some areas on Tuesday morning.

Projected lows include:

  • Pensacola: 30 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Jacksonville: 31 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Orlando: 39 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Tampa: 40 degrees Fahrenheit

The combination of low temperatures and wind chill will create dangerous conditions, increasing the risk of hypothermia and other cold-related illnesses.

Residents are advised to take precautions to stay warm, such as:

  • Dressing in layers
  • Wearing hats and gloves
  • Limiting time outdoors
  • Checking on elderly neighbors and those with health conditions
  • Bringing pets indoors

This cold snap is expected to be short-lived, with temperatures rising later in the week. However, it’s important for residents to be prepared and take steps to stay safe during this period of unusually cold weather for Florida.
