Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, alongside South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, is spearheading a multistate coalition urging the U.S. Senate to confirm former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as the 87th U.S. Attorney General. Bondi, Florida’s first female attorney general, served in the role for eight years and has nearly two decades of experience as a prosecutor.

The coalition, which includes 27 attorneys general and two attorneys general-elect, emphasizes Bondi’s landmark achievements in Florida. These include dismantling pill mills, a zero-tolerance stance on human trafficking, eliminating the backlog of untested sexual assault kits, and securing billions of dollars through the National Mortgage Settlement.

Attorney General Ashley Moody expressed strong support for Bondi, praising her as a trailblazer and dedicated public servant.

“Pam Bondi is a proven leader and fighter for justice. After her work over nearly two decades of prosecuting murderers and standing up for crime victims, she became Florida’s first female Attorney General and took the fight straight to the drug smugglers, human traffickers and serial rapists,” said Moody. “Attorney General Bondi shut down pill mills, put human traffickers behind bars and fought to eliminate the backlog of untested sexual assault kits – to bring predators to justice and some sense of closure to victims of rape. Her stellar record as an attorney general, state prosecutor and fighter for justice has prepared her to serve as the nation’s 87th U.S. Attorney General and we look forward to a swift, successful confirmation.”

Pam Bondi was first elected Florida’s Attorney General in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. During her tenure, Bondi gained recognition for her aggressive efforts to combat drug abuse, human trafficking, and predatory practices. President-elect Donald Trump nominated her for U.S. Attorney General, citing her commitment to justice and extensive experience in law enforcement.

In a letter addressed to Senate leadership, Moody, Wilson, and their coalition highlighted Bondi’s accomplishments during her time as Attorney General.

“As Florida Attorney General, General Bondi spent eight years working tirelessly to protect the health and safety of the people of Florida. During the worst days of the opioid crisis, she demonstrated extraordinary leadership, working with the Florida Legislature to shut down pill mills, initiating litigation to hold bad actors accountable, and taking many other actions designed to curb drug abuse, including championing bans on synthetic drugs. She was also a fierce advocate against human trafficking, leading efforts to increase tools for prosecutors to protect victims and hold traffickers accountable.”

The letter also acknowledged Bondi’s national leadership, including her role in securing the $56 billion National Mortgage Settlement, which benefited multiple states.

Moody is joined by a diverse group of attorneys general from 27 states, including Alabama, Alaska, Georgia, Texas, and Virginia, among others. The coalition underscores Bondi’s experience, emphasizing that her leadership and expertise make her uniquely qualified to tackle the nation’s most pressing challenges.

If confirmed, Bondi will bring her extensive prosecutorial and leadership experience to the Department of Justice, where she will oversee federal law enforcement efforts, including the fight against the opioid epidemic and human trafficking. The coalition’s support signals a strong push for her confirmation as the nation’s next Attorney General.
