Samuel Ortiz-Ordonez, 24, of Guatemala, has been indicted on charges of illegal re-entry into the United States after a previous deportation, announced United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe. If convicted, Ortiz-Ordonez faces up to two years in federal prison, followed by deportation.
Court documents reveal that Ortiz-Ordonez was deported from the United States on June 15, 2023. He did not seek or receive permission from the U.S. Attorney General or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to re-enter the country legally.

On March 13, 2025, Ortiz-Ordonez was encountered by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Jacksonville, Florida.
Upon being approached, he abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot through a residential neighborhood. After a brief pursuit, ICE officers apprehended him.

The case is being investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.
