The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved a new energy efficiency plan for Peoples Gas System, Inc. (PGS), designed to help customers save energy and reduce their natural gas consumption. The plan, known as a Demand Side Management (DSM) plan, includes a variety of programs and incentives for both residential and commercial customers.
PGS’s DSM plan aims to achieve a cumulative 10-year (2025-2034) therm savings goal of 8.0 million therms, a significant increase from its previous goal.
The plan includes 11 cost-effective programs, such as energy audits, incentives for installing efficient natural gas appliances in new construction, and retention programs to encourage continued gas usage. Rebates are available for appliances like furnaces, clothes dryers, and commercial fryers.
The total cost of the DSM plan is projected to be around $194 million over the 10-year period. However, the plan is expected to result in a decrease in monthly bill impacts for residential customers over time.
The costs of the DSM programs will be recovered through the Natural Gas Conservation Cost Recovery clause, and PGS must demonstrate annually that its program costs are reasonable and prudent.

Florida law requires the PSC to adopt conservation goals and promote energy efficiency through DSM programs. PGS is currently the only natural gas utility in Florida subject to these requirements.
