Brian Ferreira is the lucky winner of the “Triple Threat Throwdown,” a fishing challenge hosted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Catch a Florida Memory program. Ferreira, who joined the program in 2020, landed an impressive 87 different fishing achievements during the second season of the competition, earning him a fully outfitted Bonafide P127 fishing kayak, a Mustad fishing package, and a safety bundle from Russ Vorhis-State Farm Insurance.
The Triple Threat Throwdown encourages saltwater anglers to participate in three of the program’s challenges:
- Saltwater Grand Slam: Catching three specific species of fish in a 24-hour period.
- Saltwater Reel Big Fish: Catching a trophy-sized fish from a designated list of species.
- Saltwater Life List: Submitting catches of at least 10 different species.

“Catch a Florida Memory’s Triple Threat Throwdown is just one of the many ways Florida’s saltwater anglers continue to support marine fisheries conservation while creating unforgettable moments and passing on the love of fishing to future generations,” said FWC Commissioner Sonya Rood. “It was an honor to meet our 2024 winner, Brian, and thank him for participating in this exciting and innovative program.”
The program not only rewards anglers for their fishing skills but also promotes conservation and responsible fishing practices. Participants are encouraged to use proper fish handling techniques and are not required to harvest their catch to be eligible for prizes.
Want to get in on the action? Anglers who achieve “Triple Threat Club” status throughout the year by completing all three challenges will be eligible for prizes and entered into the 2025 Triple Threat Throwdown, running from March 1st to September 8th.
