The political committee Floridians Protecting Freedom, which is spearheading a ballot initiative on abortion rights, raised $14.34 million in cash from October 12 to October 18, surpassing $100 million in total contributions since its formation last year, as detailed in a recent finance report.

As of October 18, the committee had accumulated $104.12 million in cash contributions and received an additional $5.83 million in in-kind donations. Its expenditures reached about $95.39 million, with $12.68 million spent during the latest reporting period.

Most of the funds raised in the week-long period came from two organizations based in Washington, D.C.: $9 million from the Sixteen Thirty Fund and $5 million from The Fairness Project.

Floridians Protecting Freedom is advocating for the approval of Amendment 4 on the November 5 ballot, which aims to ensure that no laws can “prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability or when necessary to protect the patient’s health, as determined by the patient’s healthcare provider.”

Governor Ron DeSantis has been a prominent opponent of the measure, with state agencies even engaging in controversial activities like airing television ads against the proposal.

The initiative for Amendment 4 came in response to a law passed last year by DeSantis and the Republican-controlled Legislature, which largely bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.
