HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County has announced the successful repair of a wastewater pumping system in the Apollo Beach and Ruskin communities, which had been affected by flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. Residents in these areas can now resume normal wastewater activities.

The repaired wastewater pumping system is located in South Hillsborough County, west of Interstate 75 and south of the Alafia River.

Residents in Apollo Beach and Ruskin can now resume regular wastewater activities like bathing, showering, washing clothes, dishwashing, and flushing toilets.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for HCFL Alert, the County’s official emergency notification system, to receive updates by email, phone, and text.

Previous Reporting: Due to Hurricane Helene, flooding in Apollo Beach and Ruskin has damaged wastewater pumping systems in south Hillsborough County.

Residents west of Interstate 75 and south of the Alafia River are urged to limit activities that produce wastewater, like bathing, showering, washing clothes and dishes, and flushing toilets.

Repairs are expected to begin once floodwaters recede, likely this afternoon or evening. The County will announce when the pump station is operational again.
