HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue worked a traffic accident on 301 at Bloomingdale on Thursday morning.
According to officials, just after 9:00 A.M., Engine 37 was called to an overturned rock hauler.
While there were no injuries due to the accident, crews discovered a slow diesel leak coming from the truck’s saddle tank, and the driver stated he had just put 100 gallons of diesel in the truck.

Engine 37 applied absorbent to the road to soak up what leaked and called our Hazardous Incidents Team (HIT).
The HIT technicians attempted to plug the leak with plug putty, which did not stop the leak. Techs then switched to an offload operation, drilling a hole in the tank and pumping the product into barrels.
Diesel fuel has a relatively high flash point, meaning it poses significantly less risk of explosion than gasoline.
However, crews still deployed all safety precautions, including donning protective gear and putting a charged handline and dry chemical extinguisher on standing by, according to HCFR.
The diesel was safely offloaded, and a third party will remove and dispose of the drums, officials say.
