FEMA is committed to helping all eligible Florida households recover from the recent hurricanes, including those with mixed immigration status. As long as one member of the household is a U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, or qualified non-citizen, the family can apply for FEMA assistance.
This means that even if you are undocumented, you may still be eligible to apply if you have a child under 18 who is a U.S. citizen and lived in the household during the hurricanes.
Who is considered a qualified non-citizen?
- Green card holders
- Asylees, refugees, or those with withholding of deportation
- Non-citizens paroled into the U.S. for at least one year
- Cuban/Haitian entrants
- Certain non-citizens who are victims of human trafficking
Applying for a Minor Child:
Adults can apply on behalf of a minor child, as long as the child has a Social Security number and lived with the parent or guardian applying during the hurricane. The adult applicant will not need to provide their own immigration status information.
How to Apply:
- Online: DisasterAssistance.gov
- FEMA App: Download on your smartphone
- Phone: 800-621-3362 (expect longer wait times due to high call volume)
