The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority will get $12.9 million to improve rail crossings in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties, the Federal Highway Administration announced Tuesday.
The money is expected to improve 25 rail crossings along the Tri-Rail commuter route through work such as updating lights, signal houses, and gate mechanisms.
“The rail line is located in an area where vehicular traffic has increased and where train traffic is expected to increase over the next several years as well,” the federal agency said in a news release.
