A federal jury in Jacksonville, Florida, has convicted Gray Edward Rivera, 46, of Miami, on multiple counts related to the production and attempted production of child sexual abuse material. Rivera faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years and up to 30 years in federal prison for each count.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Rivera gifted three items containing concealed cameras to a child—a Bluetooth speaker, a calendar/clock, and a USB charging tower—and strategically placed them in the child’s bedroom.

An additional hidden camera was found disguised as a smoke detector in the living room. The child’s mother discovered the cameras and alerted the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

In collaboration with Homeland Security Investigations, the CCSO seized Rivera’s cellphones upon his return to the United States. A subsequent examination of the phones uncovered 14 files containing child sexual abuse material involving the child, as well as evidence of Rivera using an app to control the hidden cameras.

The case was investigated by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ashley Washington. Rivera has been in custody since his arrest on February 8, 2024, and awaits sentencing scheduled for December 6, 2024.
