The FBI’s Miami Field Office is aiding the Miami-Dade Police Department in their search for Joshua Ismael Campos.
Campos is wanted for the murder of Demetrius Harris Jr. in an apartment building on Southwest 270 Street in Miami, Florida. On July 25, 2021,
Campos reportedly exited an apartment armed with a weapon and shot at least 18 rounds at the victim as his girlfriend and 5-year-old son were nearby.
“I really need justice; he was my baby, and I raised him; this is so hard,” said Harris’ grandmother, Shirley Harris, at a press conference Wednesday.
On July 26, 2021, Campos was charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or delinquent in the 11th Judicial Circuit, Miami-Dade County, Florida, and a state warrant was issued for his arrest.
A federal arrest warrant was issued on February 23, 2024, by the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Miami, Florida, after Campos was charged federally with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
The shooting of Demetrius Harris Jr. sent shockwaves through the community, leaving his family devastated and seeking answers. The FBI now believes that Campos and his girlfriend, Maxine McCord, fled the state after the murder.
FBI Agent Mark McCormick stated Wednesday that they have received information suggesting that Campos may be hiding in Texas, Georgia, or Alabama.
It is believed that Campos may be traveling with Maxine McCord, who is not a fugitive from the law.
