A man wanted for a violent armed robbery in New Jersey in 2009 was arrested in Sacramento, California today. Kofi Edwards, 51, was apprehended without incident by the FBI’s Newark Central Jersey Safe Streets Task Force, following a tip from the public.
Edwards had been on the FBI’s “Most Wanted” list for his alleged involvement in an armed robbery of a Woodbridge, New Jersey restaurant on March 17, 2009.

He and several others allegedly entered the restaurant with a weapon, robbed the business, and tied up three employees. Edwards was subsequently charged with Hobbs Act armed robbery and use of a firearm in August 2012, and a federal warrant was issued for his arrest.
The FBI offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to Edwards’s arrest, which would be paid out to the individual who had provided the tip.

Edwards is currently in custody in Sacramento and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey to face charges.
The FBI Newark Central Jersey Safe Streets Task Force is comprised of agents and officers from the FBI, the New Jersey State Police, and the Newark Police Department. It is one of several FBI task forces nationwide dedicated to investigating and dismantling violent street gangs and criminal enterprises.
