TAMPA, Fla. – A 26-year-old Tampa man was killed on Tuesday in a high-speed crash that happened around 1:16 pm.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, two cars were traveling southbound on US-41, north of South 16th Avenue, in the center lane at a high rate of speed.
Troopers say the Tampa man, in a pickup truck, was traveling eastbound on South 16th Avenue and attempted a left turn into the path of the speeding vehicles.

As a result, one of the speeding cars collided with the pickup truck, splitting the truck in half.
That car then rotated to the center turn lane and collided with the trailer of a semi-truck which was stopped and waiting to turn east onto South 16th Avenue.
The driver of the pickup truck died at the scene from injuries suffered in the violent crash.
Troopers are looking for the car below, which avoided the collision, and fled the scene.
