SARASOTA, Fla. – The Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal crash that happened just before 5 p.m. Monday in the City of Sarasota.
Officers responded to a vehicle versus a semi-truck near the intersection of University Parkway and North Tamiami Trail (US 41).
A driver of a SUV, an adult woman, was driving southbound on N Tamiami Trl, when for unknown reasons her car crashed into the back of a semi-truck. The woman died on the scene as a result of her injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck, an adult man, stayed on the scene and was cooperative with officers.
The Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit, Victim Advocate, and Criminalistics Unit responded to the scene.
The intersection of University Parkway and N Tamiami Trl was closed for several hours for the investigation.
It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. The crash is under investigation by the Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit.
