TAMPA, Fla. – A construction worker tragically lost his life in an accident at Tampa International Airport (TPA) this morning. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. near the Blue Arrivals lanes, where equipment fell off the shuttle track with the operator inside.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the operator succumbed to his injuries. The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority, which operates TPA, has halted all work on the Airside A Shuttle Guideway Refurbishment Project pending a thorough safety review.

Multiple agencies are investigating the incident, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Tampa International Airport Police, and Tampa Police.
TPA is cooperating fully with the investigations and working closely with the project’s general contractor, Johnson-Laux Construction, to determine the cause of the accident.
The airport temporarily rerouted passenger pick-up traffic to the Blue Express lanes following the incident, but Blue Arrivals reopened before noon. Flight operations were not impacted.
