Family Dog Rescued in Brandon Fire Saturday

BRANDON, Fla. – Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire at 1920 Derbywood Dr., in Brandon at 11:40 am on Saturday.

Engine 18 was the first arriving engine arriving to flames and smoke showing through the front windows of a single-family home.

The homeowner was inside attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. 

Crews entered the home through the front door and completed a primary and secondary search while extinguishing the fire. Crews pulled ceiling tiles to check for any extension through the attic space.

No civilians were found inside, but the family dog was rescued from the home with no injuries.

The fire was under control in approximately 10 minutes. The cause of the fire was due to a candle falling which caused some papers to catch on fire.

Thankfully, the homeowners were alerted to the smoke and were able to evacuate thanks to their smoke alarms.
