A former Republican Representative, Santos made headlines when he was expelled from Congress in December. However, just months later, he’s back.

Santos announced his intent to run for a House seat once again following the State of the Union address Thursday.

“Tonight, I came to the SOTU with an open mind and heart because I believe in the great idea that is the United States of America. I just witnessed a weak, frail president deliver spin and lies to the American people from inside the chambers,” said Santos on X.

“I have made several personal sacrifices in the name of serving the American people. My promise is that I will never back down because of my love for this country. New York hasn’t had a real conservative represent them since I left office arbitrarily, thanks to RINO, empty suits like @nicklalota.

“He is a willing to risk the future of our majority and the future of this country for his own political gain. After a lot of prayer and conversation with my friends and family, I have made a very important decision that will shake things up. Tonight, I want to announce that I will be returning to the arena of politics and challenging Nick for the battle over #NY1. I look forward to debating him on the issues and on his weak record as a Republican. The fight for our majority is imperative for the survival of the country. God bless you all, and we are off to the races!” concluded Santos.

In December, 2023, after a scathing ethics report raised concerns about his alleged misconduct, Santos became only the sixth lawmaker to be expelled from the House.

The report uncovered a series of troubling revelations, including the misuse of campaign funds and extravagant personal expenditures. It was discovered that Santos had spent campaign funds on Botox treatments, designer goods, and even subscriptions to adult content websites like OnlyFans.

Santos’ expulsion came as no surprise to those who had been following his tumultuous career. Prior to his removal from Congress, Santos had been plagued by allegations of corruption and inefficacy. He had been a vocal critic of his peers, accusing them of widespread corruption and likening Congress to a never-ending soap opera.

In his announcement, Santos specifically targeted GOP Representative Nick LaLota, one of the members who had played a leading role in his expulsion.

Santos vowed to challenge LaLota on the issues and criticized his record as a Republican. This unexpected declaration reignited the debate surrounding Santos’ character and raised questions about his ability to mount a successful comeback.
