A Texas judge has temporarily halted the execution of Robert Roberson who was convicted in 2002 of killing his 2-year-old daughter. Roberson’s case is controversial because it relies on a shaken baby syndrome diagnosis, a diagnosis that has been increasingly questioned in recent years.
The judge’s decision came after a Texas House committee requested a delay so Roberson could testify about his case at a hearing next week.

This occurred around the same time that the U.S. Supreme Court declined to stop the execution, although Justice Sonia Sotomayor urged Texas Governor Greg Abbott to grant a 30-day delay.
The Texas Attorney General’s Office is expected to appeal the judge’s order.
