Electric Bicycle Rider Killed In St. Petersburg Crash

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A man riding an electric bicycle was killed in a crash on Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 2:30 PM at the intersection of 7th Avenue South and 59th Street South. Police say Jason Newberry, 51, was riding his e-bike southbound on 59th Street South when he failed to yield at a stop sign.

Newberry’s bike collided with the passenger side of a Jeep Compass that was traveling westbound on 7th Avenue South.

Newberry, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his bike. He was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, which is ongoing.
