Wednesday, the Florida Senate is expected to take up a controversial bill to make wide-ranging changes in the elections system, including placing additional restrictions on voter registration groups.
The bill (SB 7050) is one of numerous issues that could be taken up during a floor session.
It is part of the latest round of efforts by Gov. Ron DeSantis and Republican lawmakers to revamp elections laws. A similar House bill (HB 7067) also is positioned to go to the full House.

The Senate bill deals with issues ranging from voter registration groups to filing campaign finance reports.
For example, it would increase fines for registration groups if they miss deadlines for submitting registration applications to elections supervisors.
Also, it would allow candidates and political committees to file finance reports less frequently in off-election years.
