CLEARWATER, Fla. – A fire broke out early this morning at the Hillcrest Villas in Clearwater, sending one resident to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Clearwater Fire & Rescue Department crews responded to the scene at 24862 U.S. 19 N just before 5:00 AM. A resident reported waking up to the smell of smoke and discovering flames coming from his bathroom.
The man was able to safely evacuate his apartment before firefighters arrived. Upon arrival, crews quickly extinguished the flames, preventing them from spreading to neighboring units in the single-story building. Residents of adjacent units were evacuated as a precaution.

The resident who discovered the fire was transported to Mease Countryside Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Fire inspectors are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
