TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Fire Rescue (TFR) responded to a structure fire in the Sulphur Springs neighborhood at approximately 1:09 p.m. today, March 14, 2025.

Firefighters arrived at the 1300 block of E. River Cove St. to find a one-story duplex apartment with heavy smoke and flames visible from the rear of the structure. Crews entered the primary structure and began an interior attack on the fire.

A primary and secondary search of both units confirmed that no occupants were inside. Firefighters successfully rescued two birds from the secondary structure.

The fire was brought under control within 25 minutes. No firefighters were injured during the incident.

Two civilians were reported injured. One adult sustained minor burns and was transported to Tampa General Hospital for further evaluation. The second civilian was evaluated at the scene and refused transport.

The American Red Cross has been contacted to provide assistance to the affected families. TFR fire investigators are currently on the scene, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
