MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A man and woman running a contracting business have been arrested for allegedly defrauding a Key Largo resident out of more than $30,000 in a boat lift installation scheme.
Argelio Rivas, 58, of Miami, and Aileen Labrador Mompeller,50, of Palmetto Bay, were taken into custody on Tuesday, facing charges of fraud and theft.

The pair allegedly accepted a payment of $32,300 from the victim in 2020 as part of a contract to construct boat lifts. However, despite the hefty payment, the work was never completed. Even after four years, the victim was left high and dry with no boat lifts and a significant financial loss.
Sheriff’s deputies obtained warrants for the arrest of Rivas and Mompeller, leading to their apprehension and booking into jail on Tuesday.
