HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver involved in a single-vehicle crash in Hernando County early Tuesday morning.
The crash occurred around 5:08 AM on State Road 50 near the intersection of US-98. According to the FHP, a Mercedes C-Class sedan was traveling eastbound on SR-50 at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control.

The vehicle veered off the roadway and onto the right shoulder, colliding with a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) street sign and a fence. It then struck several trees before coming to a stop.
Following the crash, the driver fled the scene on foot, leaving behind the damaged vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the Mercedes was bearing a fictitious California license plate.
The FHP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the driver. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact *FHP (*347) or Crime Stoppers at **TIPS.
