The grand jury investigating former President Donald Trump paused its probe on Thursday, meaning it will be next week before Americans learn if the 45th president will be indicted.
News reports said the panel took up non-Trump matters yesterday, which were not specified because the jury’s work is secret.
But The New York Sun reports that doubt is growing about Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case, including within Bragg’s own office.

The Sun reported that Bragg released the jury on Wednesday and gave it other business on Thursday as he scrambled to find a witness to rebut Robert Costello, a former legal adviser to former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.
Cohen claims he paid stripper Stormy Daniels $130,000 at Trump’s direction in 2016 to buy her silence about an alleged affair.
Trump denies this, saying he paid Cohen that amount, on Cohen’s advice, as legal fees. He also has denied the affair.
Bragg is pursuing the case even after both federal prosecutors and the Federal Election Commission dropped it.
A “substantial number of assistant district attorneys” were “shaking their heads” over Bragg’s pursuit of Trump, the Sun reported, citing reporting by the New York Post.

Bragg’s underlings are “not fans of Trump but they are professional lawyers and know the law,” the Sun noted.
Fox News has reported that Bragg’s staff is “rife with dissension” about the prosecution of Trump.
One lawyer following the case, Harvey Silverglate, told the Sun that
the supposed charges against Trump are “outrageous.” “If Trump is going to be indicted for something,” he added, “it has to be more substantial than this petty matter.”
In the Sun last week, renowned Harvard law School professor Alan Dershowitz wrote, “Does anyone actually believe that if someone else were accused of paying hush money to avoid a sex scandal in the manner that Mr. Trump is suspected of doing, he would be prosecuted?”

“All decent people, whether politically opposed to Mr. Trump (as I am) or supportive of his candidacy, should be concerned about this weaponizing of the prosecutor’s office for the political purpose of preventing a potential candidate from running for office,” Dershowitz added.
“Mr. Trump should not be indicted for novel and unprecedented technical crimes for which no one else would be prosecuted. Equal protection of the law requires equal application and non-application of criminal statutes. Mr. Bragg would be violating that important principle if he seeks a grand jury indictment based on what now appears to be the slim evidence and even slimmer legal basis.”
