The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced today that it will deploy monitors in 86 jurisdictions across 27 states on November 5 to ensure compliance with federal voting rights laws.

This initiative, coordinated by the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, will include personnel from the Civil Rights Division, U.S. Attorney’s Offices, and federal observers from the Office of Personnel Management.

Monitored areas span across the U.S., with counties in key states like Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, and Texas included in the department’s efforts. The DOJ’s Voting Section will enforce protections under the Voting Rights Act, National Voter Registration Act, Help America Vote Act, and other federal statutes aimed at safeguarding citizens’ access to the ballot.

The Disability Rights Section will enforce the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to ensure accessible voting for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, the Criminal Section will uphold federal laws prohibiting voter intimidation and suppression based on race, color, national origin, or religion.

Throughout Election Day, DOJ personnel will remain in contact with state and local election officials to respond to any emerging issues.

Public questions or complaints related to federal voting rights can be submitted online at www.civilrights.justice.gov or by calling 800-253-3931. For ADA-related complaints, individuals can call the ADA information hotline at 800-514-0301 or file through the department’s website at www.ada.gov.
