The Department of Justice (DOJ), under the direction of Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, has issued a directive to all 93 U.S. attorneys across the country, mandating strict enforcement of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

In a three-page memo circulated this week, Bove outlined new instructions aimed at curbing illegal immigration, emphasizing that the DOJ must ensure full implementation of the administration’s agenda.

The memo also states that any local officials or jurisdictions failing to comply with federal immigration enforcement efforts should be reported and face potential legal action.

Key Directives in the Memo:

  • Strict Enforcement Measures: U.S. attorneys are instructed to prioritize immigration-related cases and ensure full compliance with the president’s policies, which include expedited deportation procedures and stricter enforcement against sanctuary jurisdictions.
  • Accountability for Local Governments: The DOJ will investigate and potentially take legal action against local entities that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
  • Overhaul of Immigration Court Leadership: The DOJ has removed top officials from its immigration court system to align the department more closely with the administration’s objectives.

The memo is part of a broader strategy to implement President Trump’s recent executive order on birthright citizenship, which seeks to limit automatic citizenship to children of non-citizens and undocumented immigrants.

The DOJ’s increased focus on immigration enforcement comes as the department awaits key leadership confirmations. Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, President Trump’s nominee for U.S. Attorney General, is expected to face a Judiciary Committee vote next week before heading to the Senate floor for final confirmation. If confirmed, Bondi is expected to oversee further implementation of the administration’s aggressive immigration stance.

Additionally, Kash Patel, the nominee for FBI Director, is set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee next week. Patel, a close Trump ally, is expected to take a hardline approach to immigration enforcement, aligning with the broader efforts of the DOJ.

The DOJ’s push for stricter immigration enforcement signals a significant shift in federal policy, with potential legal battles looming over the administration’s approach to birthright citizenship and sanctuary cities. Legal experts predict that courts will soon be weighing in on the constitutional implications of these policies, setting the stage for a contentious legal fight that could reach the Supreme Court.

In the meantime, U.S. attorneys across the country are expected to intensify their focus on prosecuting immigration violations and ensuring compliance with federal mandates, with the DOJ closely monitoring their efforts.
