BRADENTON, Fla. – A swift response from multiple fire agencies contained a blaze at a multi-family apartment building in Bradenton this morning, leaving 16 residents displaced but thankfully resulting in no human injuries. A dog was rescued from the burning building and is receiving veterinary care.

The City of Bradenton Fire Department (BFD) received a report of a structure fire in the 700 block of 51st Street East at 11:23 a.m. The first units arrived on scene at 11:31 a.m. to find heavy smoke billowing from a second-floor apartment unit. Firefighters immediately began assisting residents with evacuation while battling the flames.

The fire was brought under control at 11:40 a.m. Crews rescued one dog from the second-floor apartment. The dog was treated at the scene by Manatee County EMS and then transported by Pet Care Express for further evaluation.

Sixteen residents were displaced by the fire. Nine have made their own arrangements for temporary housing, while the remaining seven are being assisted or contacted by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire was investigated by the BFD and the State Fire Marshal’s Office and was determined to be accidental.
