With less than 100 days until Election Day and ahead of the Democratic National Convention, the DNC has announced a significant six-figure investment in “Democrats Abroad,” marking the first time such funding has been allocated during a presidential cycle.
This investment aims to secure the votes of approximately 9 million Americans living or serving outside the United States, of which only about 8% were registered voters in 2020.
The funds will bolster “Democrats Abroad’s” efforts to register these citizens, enhance their mail-in voting operations, and mobilize the abroad vote in key battleground states.

“With this new investment from the DNC, and strategic programming and engagement from Democrats Abroad, Democrats are reaching voters where they are – be it military voters, students studying abroad, or families that are living abroad and want to do everything in their power to ensure Vice President Harris is the next president of the United States,” said the DNC in a statement.
In battleground states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, there are an estimated 1.6 million people living abroad, including service members. The impact of abroad voters was evident in the 2020 election, where just 44,000 votes across Arizona, Georgia, and Wisconsin secured Joe Biden’s presidency. These voters also played a significant role in close races during the 2022 midterms.
“Democrats Abroad” has been at the forefront of engaging American voters worldwide through initiatives like the online portal votefromabroad.org, which helps citizens register to vote from abroad and provides extensive support.

With this new investment from the DNC, Democrats are reaching voters where they are—whether they are military personnel, students studying abroad, or families living overseas—all with the goal of ensuring Vice President Harris wins the presidency.
“We’re thrilled to receive the DNC’s support at this crucial time,” said Martha McDevitt-Pugh, Chair of Democrats Abroad. “This support affirms the importance of the overseas electorate, who have been the margin of victory in many pivotal races, including delivering Georgia in 2020.”

DNC Deputy Executive Director Roger Lau added, “This election will be won on the margins, and every single vote counts. Our investment in Democrats Abroad is part of our commitment to ensure every U.S. citizen has a voice in this election. We’re leaving nothing to chance as we work to engage voters both inside and outside the U.S.”
