ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an elderly woman whose body was found in an advanced state of decomposition at her home.

On April 6, 2025, St. Pete police responded to a call from a landlord requesting a welfare check on Susan King, 92, at 5438 2nd Avenue South. The landlord reported that they had been unable to contact King for several months.

Officers spoke with King’s adult son, Michael Moulton, 67, who told them that his mother was visiting a friend and would return in a day or two.

Officers returned to the residence the following day, April 7th, to check on King’s welfare. After searching the house, they discovered her body in an advanced stage of decomposition.

Preliminary autopsy results did not indicate any signs of trauma or foul play.

Moulton was detained due to an outstanding arrest warrant from 2013 for failure to appear on a theft charge.

The investigation into the death of Susan King is ongoing.
