The Florida Supreme Court has sentenced a disbarred attorney, Jeffrey Alan Norkin, to 60 days in jail for continuing to practice law despite his disbarment. The Court upheld a referee’s recommendation to hold Norkin in contempt but increased the recommended 10-day jail sentence.
Norkin will serve 10 days in the Broward County Jail, with the remaining 50 days suspended if he successfully completes five months of probation, which includes undergoing a psychological evaluation.
The Court’s decision cited Norkin’s “pattern of misconduct” and “blatant disregard for the authority of the courts.”

Norkin was initially suspended from practicing law in 2013 for unprofessional conduct. Despite this, he continued to represent clients, leading to his permanent disbarment in 2015. Even after being disbarred, Norkin continued to practice law, resulting in a no-contest plea to a charge of unlicensed practice of law in 2022.
The Supreme Court’s ruling emphasized that Norkin’s actions demonstrate a long-standing pattern of disrespect for the legal system. The Court stated that it had “exhausted all sanction options other than ordering a period of incarceration.”
