Detroit Police Department has released body camera footage of an officer-involved shooting that occurred at a house party on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
Police responded to the sound of gunfire and multiple 911 calls, reporting a disturbance and possible shooting at the location.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a chaotic scene with a large crowd gathered outside the residence.
“They encountered an individual who’s been reported to have possession of a firearm, and an officer-involved shooting took place,” Detroit Police Cmdr. Michael McGinnis said.

The Detroit PD released a video showing officers attempting to disperse the crowd and investigate the reports of gunfire.
An altercation ensued between an individual and an officer during the interaction, leading to the officer discharging their weapon.

Four individuals were injured in a shooting incident, with their conditions ranging from critical to temporary serious. Police discovered over 90 shell casings at the scene, indicating a significant exchange of gunfire. Eight firearms were recovered during the investigation, including an AK-style rifle.
The Detroit Police Department’s internal affairs division and an independent review board are investigating the incident.
Community leaders and activists have called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the shooting, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in police-involved incidents.
